The AmdEL Process
An electrochemical cell is created, whereby, oxygen is actively reduced, in situ, at the tailings/electrolyte interface through the electrochemical reduction of O2 as described by the following reaction:
2H2O + 4e- + O2 --> 4OH-
The overall impact is to create an environment where the tailings are thermodynamically stable.
Implementation
Systems can be designed to address a variety of AMD/ARD situations:

• Waste rock piles
• Massive bedrock
